Rudy Ray
"You'll be unconscious in 20 seconds. Dead in 3 minutes." Rudy to Howard .
Soldier. Mercenary. Ex-Texas Ranger. Brother. Rudy Ray, played by Mickey Rourke, has spent most of his life with a License to
Kill and does it pretty well. The one thing in his life that rests on his shoulder is not being there. When his brother,
Joe (Kevin Gage)
is sentenced to be executed, the guilt rides him hard. Hard enough to turn in his badge to the Rangers after only three years of
service. But fate had yet another cruel card to play to him. Rourke keeps your attention. He comes complete with bulging biceps,
perfect tan and intimidating persona.
When he learns Joe has escaped and taken over a Mall with a bunch of other convicts, Rudy is forced to confront not only the bad
guys, but his own demons as well. An emotional blow comes when he faces his brother in a deserted hallway and finds that his
brother knows he's been set up by
Howard (Paul Ben Victor) an underworld boss who had been using the Mall as his base of
operations before he was caught and convicted. More importantly, Joe doesn't want Rudy's help. The police are held at bay by the
crazed prisoners led by the psychotic
Wallace (Danny Trejo). An intense, crazed, adversary..
All things come to a climax when Joe dies in his brother's arms after being shot by Howard. Who, in turn, had his throat cut by
Rudy. Guilt, rage, and grief drive him to savagely kill one of the two remaining inmates and freeing the hostages. The only balm to his
soul was the saving grace of one kid. Joe made him promise to get him out of there and he made good. But that didn't bring him
back. When it's all over, all Rudy Ray wants to do is let down his guard and mourn.
